The Ukrainians from B8 pulled off one of the biggest sensations of the Esports World Cup 2026 in CS2. In the match for a playoff spot, the team defeated one of the tournament favorites — Vitality — with a score of 2-1. After a loss on Mirage, the Ukrainians turned the series around on Inferno, and on the decisive Dust2, they simply left their opponent no chance.
B8 continues its incredible performance at the Esports World Cup 2026. The Ukrainian team secured a victory over Vitality in the upper bracket semifinals of Group C and guaranteed a spot in the playoffs of the prestigious tournament.

For B8, this victory became especially important considering the status of their opponent. Vitality approached EWC as one of the strongest teams in the world, with Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, Robin "ropz" Kool, Shahar "flameZ" Shushan, William "mezii" Merriman, and captain Dan "apEX" Madesclaire playing in their roster.
However, this time it was the Ukrainians who handled the pressure of the decisive match better. B8 not only survived a difficult start to the series but also completely dominated on the third map.
The first map of the series was Mirage, where B8 approached the match in less than ideal spirits from a statistical standpoint. The Ukrainians had a seven-game losing streak on this map, but right from the opening rounds, they showed that past results didn't matter.
B8 had a great T side and finished it with five rounds won. After switching to defense, the team continued to put pressure on Vitality, pushing their lead to 11:7.
However, that was precisely when the French-European squad found their rhythm.
Vitality won nine of the next ten rounds and managed to turn the map around. B8 had several great opportunities to close out Mirage in their favor, but their opponent capitalized on the Ukrainians' mistakes.
In the end, Vitality took the first map — 16:12.
Despite the defeat, B8 demonstrated that they are capable of playing toe-to-toe with Vitality. And most importantly — the team did not allow the unfortunate ending on Mirage to affect their psychological state heading into the next map.
On Inferno, the situation initially looked even worse.
Vitality got off to a great start on the CT side and stopped B8's attacks almost effortlessly. After the first half, the European team led 9:3, and it seemed that the series was gradually coming under their full control.
But after the side swap, B8 displayed a completely different Counter-Strike.
The Ukrainians began reading their opponent's actions brilliantly, utilized utility effectively, and practically shut down Vitality's ability to comfortably execute attacks through Banana.
Artem "kensizor" Kapran's performance was particularly crucial as he excelled in the anchor role on the A site. B8 gradually chipped away at the deficit, while Vitality began making mistakes in key moments.
One of the turning points was an unsuccessful play by apEX in a 4v3 situation, after which Vitality lost a crucial advantage. Equally painful was ropz's failed attempt to pull off a flank in a 2v2 scenario.
B8 seized every opportunity and mounted a comeback, closing out Inferno with a score of 13:11.
Thus, after losing the first map, the series score became 1:1.
While Mirage and Inferno delivered pure drama for the viewers, Dust2 turned out to be a completely different story.
On the decisive map, B8 demonstrated near-flawless preparation for their opponent. The Ukrainians read Vitality's attacks brilliantly, reacted promptly to their plays, and regularly punished the Europeans for individual mistakes.
Vitality failed to find their rhythm in either team executions or individual duels.
B8 steadily built up their lead, and after the side swap, they didn't give their opponent a single chance to get back into the game.
Dust2 final score — 13:4.
It was this map that sealed the sensation: B8 didn't just beat Vitality in a close series, but blew out one of the tournament favorites on the decisive map.
The top statistical performer of the entire series was Andrii "npl" Kukharskyi, who finished the match with a 1.25 rating. He logged 56 kills against 40 deaths.
Second in rating was Danylo "s1zzi" Vinnyk — 1.19 and a 54–41 K-D.
Dmytro "esenthial" Tsvir also put in a solid performance, ending the series with a 1.08 rating and showing particularly crucial play during key stages of Inferno.

This result holds significance not just for B8.
The Ukrainian team advanced to the playoffs of one of the year's largest international tournaments by defeating an opponent who, until very recently, was considered one of the primary title contenders.
At the same time, B8 had already managed to show at EWC that the victory over Vitality was no accident. At the start of the tournament, the Ukrainians also defeated PARIVISION with a score of 13:11 on Cache, earning the opportunity to play for a playoff spot.
Interestingly, B8 already had experience facing Vitality in 2026. Previous encounters were far less successful for the Ukrainians, making this victory carry even greater weight.
B8's preparation deserves special mention. After the match, npl shared that the team entered EWC in very good form and had high-quality practice prior to the tournament. According to him, B8 even played a practice match against Vitality on Dust2, which helped the Ukrainians prepare for the decisive map.
And it showed clearly on the server: on Dust2, B8 looked as if they knew virtually every decision from their opponent in advance.
For Vitality, this defeat was a serious blow.
The European squad will now continue fighting through the lower bracket and no longer has room for error. Meanwhile, B8 secured a direct ticket to the playoffs and can prepare for the next stage of the tournament without an extra series in the group stage.
For B8, this is another big step forward in 2026.
