The opening hours of Subnautica 2 can be pretty unforgiving. Oxygen disappears quickly, resources are limited, and finding reliable food or water isn’t always obvious. Although the game encourages free exploration from the start, focusing on a few important upgrades first will make survival far smoother.

At the beginning, the priority should always be maintaining oxygen, hydration, and food supplies before moving toward larger crafting and construction systems.
Your health, hunger, and thirst indicators are displayed in the lower-left corner of the interface, and all three need constant attention. One of the easiest ways to avoid dehydration is by collecting Water Slugs, small transparent blue creatures scattered around the seabed. These can be processed into drinkable water using the Fabricator’s Sustenance tab.
While exploring, it’s also worth gathering nearby Titanium. After collecting at least three pieces, head back to the Lifepod and craft the Survival Multitool through the Personal menu.
Keep an eye out for glowing orange Lucifer Rotsacs during your first exploration run. Turning two of them into Rubber, then combining that with Titanium, allows you to create an Air Bladder.
Although optional, this gadget can instantly restore 25 oxygen and helps players rise to the surface much faster during emergencies.хню.

The Scanner is one of the key progression tools in Subnautica 2. It’s used to unlock blueprints for equipment, structures, vehicles, and many important upgrades throughout the game.
Crafting requirements:
Copper and Titanium are easy to find in the cave beneath the Lifepod, while Quartz is commonly located inside nearby Coral Domes.
After building the Scanner, players should make a habit of scanning nearly every object they encounter to unlock additional crafting recipes and useful technology.

Certain tools should be scanned as early as possible, especially Flashlights, Habitat Builders, Sonic Resonators, and Wakemakers. Some blueprints require multiple scans before they become available.
At the start of the game, the character has a condition called Hunger Intolerance, which prevents safe consumption of local plants and fish. To fix this, players need to unlock the Digestion Adaptation.
This upgrade can be obtained near the large pink Angel Comb plant located northeast of the Lifepod.
Once unlocked, native fish and plant resources can safely be processed into edible food using the Fabricator.

Exploration becomes significantly easier after crafting Fins and a Standard Air Tank.
Materials needed:
The Standard Air Tank is especially important because it increases oxygen reserves by 30 points, giving players much more time underwater.
Players can also visit the Welcome Center southeast of the Lifepod and activate it using a Basic Battery. This unlocks access to the Biolab and Biomods, which provide additional passive bonuses.
The next major milestone is preparing for permanent base construction.
To unlock the Flashlight and Habitat Builder recipes, players must scan two copies of each item found in the environment.

After completing the scans, both items can be crafted through the Fabricator.
Once the core survival systems are secured, players can begin expanding into proper base building. The next progression stage usually includes:
