According to a document recently published by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, Black Myth: Wukong has surpassed 30 million copies sold. The milestone was achieved considerably faster than Elden Ring, which required more than three years to reach the same figure.
While the game was a massive success in China, more than half of its sales came from players outside the country, highlighting its worldwide appeal. The PC version on Steam was the main sales driver, though the PlayStation 5 release also performed strongly. Black Myth: Wukong launched in August 2024 for PC and PS5, while Xbox Series X and S versions arrived a year later.

The title also won the Game of the Year award at the Steam Awards 2024, where winners were chosen directly by players. Critics praised the game as well. Reviewer Francesco De Meo awarded it 8.5 out of 10 and wrote:
«Black Myth: Wukong couldn't have been a better debut for Game Science. Although their action role-playing game may not be innovative, it's got great production values, it's fun to play, it's engaging, and it's beautiful to look at. Some minor issues, such as a challenge level that could be too low for some and an experience that gets a little stale over time, hold back the game a bit, but in all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised to see more than a few players name Black Myth: Wukong their Game of the Year».
Game Science is currently developing Black Myth: Zhong Kui, which was announced during Gamescom last year. The project will not be a direct sequel to Wukong, although the developers have reassured fans that the Monkey King's journey is far from over. The studio is still working on defining what sets Zhong Kui apart, meaning the wait for its release could be a long one.
