Blizzard is reportedly developing several new projects based on the StarCraft and Diablo franchises, although their future remains uncertain. The information comes from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who discussed the situation in his video The Cruelest Part Of Xbox's Layoffs covering Microsoft's major gaming layoffs.
According to Schreier, the biggest issue is that none of these projects have been officially announced, making them the most vulnerable to cancellation. Microsoft is expected to cut around 3,200 employees over this year and next. As a result, the company is focusing primarily on established franchises such as Diablo 4, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch 2, leaving less room for experimental projects.
Most of the rumors currently revolve around StarCraft. Reports about a new game set in the franchise have been circulating for quite some time, with the project believed to be a shooter. Previous leaks also claimed Blizzard was developing an action RPG centered on Arthas. As for Diablo, Schreier only stated that Blizzard has multiple projects in development without revealing any additional details.
Rumors suggest the first announcements could take place during BlizzCon 2026 in September, where Blizzard may unveil the new StarCraft shooter. However, following Microsoft's recent layoffs, even those plans are now uncertain. Blizzard has not officially commented on Schreier's claims or confirmed that any of the rumored projects exist.
