The indie climbing adventure Cairn has enjoyed an impressively strong launch. Just over three days after its release on January 29, the game surpassed 200,000 copies sold across PC and PS5.

Over the weekend of February 1, Cairn reached a new milestone on Steam, peaking at nearly 15,000 concurrent players. Player reception has been equally positive, with 93 percent of reviews marked as «very positive» based on close to 4,000 user impressions.

This marks a major breakthrough for The Game Bakers. Their earlier titles, including Furi, Haven, and Squids Odyssey, never came close to achieving similar results. Despite a relatively low-key marketing push and the absence of trendy indie hooks like roguelite systems or online co-op, Cairn managed to capture a wide audience.

Steam statistics further support the game’s success. Cairn climbed as high as ninth place in the Global Top Sellers chart and reached fourth place in Wishlist Activity. A peak of nearly 15,000 concurrent players is a notable achievement for a single-player adventure built around a very specific set of mechanics and pacing.

While there has been no official confirmation of Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2 versions so far, the self-published studio appears satisfied with the game’s performance, leaving the door open for potential releases on additional platforms in the future.

As a reminder, Minecraft, World of Warcraft and other iconic Microsoft games may arrive on Steam.
