Polish developer and publisher CD Projekt has officially adopted a new name. The company announced the upcoming change back in June, and after completing all necessary formalities, the decision came into effect on August 10. From now on, the creators of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 officially operate under the name CD Projekt RED. For legal and business activities, including dealings with investors, the full corporate name is CD Projekt RED SA.
Previously, CD Projekt RED referred specifically to the division responsible for developing and publishing video games, while the parent company itself was simply called CD Projekt. The company has now decided to unify its branding as it expands its presence in the gaming industry and works on several major projects simultaneously.
For players, the change does not really mean anything. Gamers have long used CD Projekt RED to refer to the studio behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, so the new official name is unlikely to cause any confusion.
At the moment, CD Projekt RED is working on a new Witcher trilogy, the Songs of the Past expansion for The Witcher 3, a Cyberpunk sequel and the mysterious Hadar project, which is being developed as part of the company's own new franchise. The company is also working on several spin offs and mobile games.
As a Reminder, The Game Awards 2026 ceremony will take place on December 10.
