The main Hearthstone tournament of the year, the World Championship 2026, has concluded at the BlizzCon 2026 festival. Chinese player OTGxhh emerged as the champion. In the decisive grand final, he faced his compatriot and defending world champion XiaoT, confidently defeating him with a score of 3:1. It is worth noting that Ukrainian players Incurro and demoshadow, as well as Chinese player Jiuqianyu, were unable to secure visas for the tournament, forcing the organizers to make player substitutions.
OTGxhh's path to the title started off poorly: in his first match, he lost to Che0nsu with a score of 1:3. However, this defeat was the Chinese esports player's only loss in the tournament. Regrouping, he delivered a streak of four consecutive victories. In the playoff stage, OTGxhh successively eliminated Kwanwoo (3:1) and McBanterFace (3:0), paving his way to the final.
The main key to the newly crowned champion's success was his unique approach to deck selection. He brought the most unconventional lineup among all participants to the tournament: Egg Death Knight, Attack Druid, Quest Priest, and Mug Shaman. Notably, out of the 16 players in the championship, OTGxhh was the only one to use the Death Knight class.
The final match was highly tense. XiaoT managed to win the first game, but OTGxhh instantly seized the initiative and responded with three consecutive victories. The fate of the title was decided in the fourth game during a Druid mirror match. The key moment was the successful use of the Rustrot Viper card against his opponent's weapon, which allowed OTGxhh to secure the series victory.
The total prize pool for the Hearthstone World Championship 2026 was $500,000. By securing the championship title, OTGxhh took home the grand prize of $100,000. Silver medalist XiaoT earned $60,000, while Curfew and McBanterFace, who took third and fourth places, added $40,000 each to their accounts.
