Remedy Entertainment's action game Control Resonant has become the latest title featured in IGN First. The outlet has started sharing new details about the game and has released an extensive exclusive gameplay video showcasing the story mission The Metro Fault.
During the mission, protagonist Dylan heads into the New York subway, which gradually turns into a surreal and increasingly dangerous environment. The deeper he goes underground, the less the area resembles an ordinary metro system. Trains begin floating through the air and moving unpredictably, the walls stretch and change shape, and Dylan starts hearing the voice of his missing sister Jesse.
The subway is also home to the Mold, a familiar threat from the original Control. Its smell drives people insane, causes them to consume the substance themselves, and eventually kills them.
From a gameplay perspective, The Metro Fault is one of many dungeon-like areas found throughout Control Resonant. Completing these locations rewards players with useful upgrades. In this particular mission, Dylan obtains the Reach ability, which allows him to quickly move up vertical surfaces.
Unlike the original game, Control Resonant will not place Federal Bureau of Control director Jesse Faden at the center of the story. Instead, the protagonist will be her brother Dylan, a former prisoner and subject of the organization.
The sequel also moves the action away from the Oldest House and into the streets of Manhattan. The city has been overrun by otherworldly creatures that escaped from the FBC headquarters. A supernatural catastrophe has dramatically altered New York, leaving some buildings suspended in the air while others have been rotated by 90 or even 180 degrees. Players will be able to navigate across the rooftops of these distorted structures.
The main story of Control Resonant is expected to take around 30 hours to complete, while finishing all of the game's activities should require roughly 50 hours. Remedy has also moved away from the traditional shooter formula, with the sequel taking more inspiration from fast-paced action games such as Devil May Cry.
Control Resonant is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
