Crimson Desert Pickpocketing Guide | How It Works

Pickpocketing in Crimson Desert is tied to a specific requirement. Players need to equip a Mask, since it is the item that enables any kind of unlawful activity, including stealing from NPCs. Without it, these actions remain unavailable.

To steal from someone, you first have to disrupt them. Move quickly into an NPC and collide with them to briefly knock them off balance. This opens a short interaction window marked by a prompt on the screen. You must trigger the pickpocket action before the NPC recovers.

Controls differ depending on the platform. On PC, double tap Shift to dash into the target, then press E when the prompt appears. On PlayStation 5, press X to bump into the NPC and Square to steal. On Xbox Series X or S, use A to initiate contact and X to complete the pickpocket.

Only NPCs with valuables can be targeted. A lantern helps identify them. If there is no golden highlight, the NPC has nothing useful. A visible golden glow means they are carrying loot. The form of that glow hints at the item type, which can include coin pouches, keys, or gold bars, with the latter being especially profitable.

The Mask can be obtained in multiple ways. It can be purchased from a hidden vendor southeast of Hernand, dropped randomly by bandits, or earned as a reward for completing Jeffrey’s bounty task. If guards catch you in the act, they will confiscate the Mask.

Running into NPCs is not treated as a crime, even if they react negatively. The offense only counts once you successfully steal. Each successful attempt reduces your contribution points in that region by five and creates a red boundary nearby.

Leaving the red zone quickly allows you to avoid penalties. Remaining inside it will result in a small bounty being issued. If you are caught afterward, you can clear that bounty by paying a Priest at a Confessional.
