The prominent Danish charity organization Kirkens Korshær has launched an innovative project called Secondhand Skins. It is a unique digital thrift store that allows gamers to donate their unused Counter-Strike 2 in-game items to charity.
For over 50 years, Kirkens Korshær has operated a network of approximately 230 physical thrift stores across Denmark to fund its social programs. Now, the organization is bringing this traditional fundraising model into the digital economy. All proceeds generated from the resale of donated in-game items will go toward supporting vulnerable children and youth in Denmark.
According to Morten Østergaard Sørensen, Head of Communications at Kirkens Korshær, the initiative aims to make charity accessible and relevant for a new audience. The organization believes that the principle of recycling—where an item that has lost value for one person gains value for another—works just as effectively for digital objects as it does for physical ones.
The donation process is managed through the campaign's official website. Players simply follow a designated Steam trade link, select the Counter-Strike 2 skins they wish to donate, and send a trade offer directly to Kirkens Korshær. The charity then receives the digital goods and lists them for sale. Although individual skins may have a low market value, the organizers expect that bulk donations will accumulate into significant financial support for their operations.
