The latest Dota 2 gameplay update, version 7.41f, introduces significant balance adjustments following the conclusion of the year's main tournament. The primary goal of the patch is to nerf the most popular heroes of The International 2026 and address sharp power spikes in the late game.
Regarding economy and item changes, in update 7.41f, IceFrog paid significant attention to late-game carry heroes, complicating access to key artifacts by increasing recipe costs. The assembly cost of items such as Daedalus (by 100 gold), Dragon Lance (which automatically increased the price of Hurricane Pike), Heart of Tarrasque, and Octarine Core (whose recipe doubled in price to 400 gold) has significantly increased. At the same time, the developers noticeably nerfed survival mechanics: mana regeneration from Infused Raindrops and Essence Distiller has been reduced, the lifesteal percentage of Mask of Madness and Satanic has been decreased (especially from creeps), and the damage from Shiva's Guard and Manta Style has been cut. Conversely, Battle Fury and Heaven's Halberd have become slightly more appealing due to a reduced cooldown and a lower price, respectively.
The true fall of titans and the nerfing of meta favorites came in the form of stat changes to key characters. Almost all the popular heroes of TI 2026 received direct nerfs. Treant Protector, who had a 100% pick or ban rate at the tournament, suffered the most: his base intelligence was reduced, a mana cost was added to Leech Seed, the damage block from Living Armor was cut in half, and the linger duration of invisibility after leaving trees was reduced to just 1 second. Earth Spirit and Bounty Hunter also lost their ground due to slowed scaling and a critical reduction in bonus gold from the Track ability. Other heroes also received targeted nerfs: Centaur Warrunner, Invoker, Lina, Shadow Fiend, and Winter Wyvern suffered reductions in base stats, weaker ability scaling, or increased cooldowns.
Despite the general trend of nerfs, new prospects have emerged thanks to the buffing of some heroes. Anti-Mage now converts 65% of burned mana into damage, and Ursa received an improved health-to-damage conversion ratio from Maul. The developers also increased the strength gain for Chen and Huskar, boosted the base armor of Mars and the attack speed of Warlock, and rebalanced the healing of the hero Largo.
It remains an open question whether these changes will be enough to topple the current meta, but the professional esports scene usually adapts quickly to new conditions. The first Tier-1 tournament where players will test the 7.41 update in practice will be PGL Wallachia Season 9, scheduled to start on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
