Dust Vein: Ukrainian Co-op Horror Where Monsters Steal Your Voice

Ukrainian game dev continues to pleasantly surprise. If you are looking for a new dose of adrenaline for co-op nights, Dust Vein is worth paying attention to. This is a new project by a Ukrainian solo developer that already has a Steam page. The game will feature intriguing lore, unique mechanics, and genuine psychological pressure.

The events of the game unfold around a mysterious space "Ark" — humanity's last bastion. You play as a defective clone, an artificially created bio-agent. Hundreds of years after unknown catastrophic events, you are sent back to Earth with a single goal: to find the source of a mysterious signal and uncover the secret of reproduction (Project "Eva").

But on Earth, only gloomy underground bunkers and mines await you. The Ark is harsh: you must constantly "feed the Maw" so that it allows you to descend deeper toward the signal. If you fail or miss the rescue elevator, the Ark will relentlessly write you off as bio-waste, replacing you with a new, more promising batch of clones.

Although the game is conceptually inspired by the formula of Lethal Company, the developer has packed it with many of his own ideas. Every descent is a whole new nightmare thanks to a procedural generation system and random events.

Key features:

  • Voice Chat and Mimics: This is perhaps the game's creepiest feature. In voice chat, you hear your friends based on distance. However, threats are capable of copying the voice of any team member. You cannot trust anyone, and turning your back on teammates is fatally dangerous.
  • Scale and Bestiary: As the game's author shared with us, 3 depth levels of diving into mines and bunkers are planned at launch. You will face about 10 different types of monsters, each with its own unique behavior pattern (they will not just blindly run at the player).
  • Progression and Equipment: You will be able to expand your base using a workbench and upgrade your assistant — a courier spider. The game will feature a player's personal room where you can select skins. The developer also promises around 50 items, many of which will have their own unique functions.

Dust Vein is being created by the efforts of just one person. The developer, known by the nickname Mor, is working on the game from Poltava. According to him, this is already his second official Steam game, which he arrived at after studying and creating small 2D and 3D projects across various genres.

The developer also holds a principled stance regarding localization. Only Ukrainian and English are available in the game. What's more, the game's teaser features an atmospheric Ukrainian poem read by the developer's wife. For the Ukrainian audience, the author promises to set the lowest regional price.

We wish Dust Vein a swift release, great success, and as few bugs as possible.

As a reminder, Fantasy action game Mistfall Hunter has already gathered 1 million players.
