Major changes have taken place at Polish studio Techland as Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektala announced his departure from the company after more than a decade.
Smektala joined the studio in 2013 as a game designer on the original Dying Light. Over the following years, he became the head of the series and later served as game director on the upcoming Dying Light: The Beast.
He did not reveal the reasons behind his departure or share details about his future plans. However, in his farewell message, Smektala thanked the team and assured fans that the franchise remains “in good hands.”

«After many years with Dying Light, I’m starting a new chapter. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m proud of what we created», «Thank you to all the talented people at Techland I had the chance to work with — both in development and publishing — for the passion, energy, and shared ambition to make Dying Light the best zombie game possible. We achieved it together!»
He also addressed the community directly:
«Your love, engagement, and constant support have always guided us. You helped shape what Dying Light became».
According to Smektala, he is excited to see how the franchise evolves in the future and will continue supporting it as a player.
