FACEIT Launches Next-Gen Anti-Cheat: AI to Detect Cheaters Based on Behavior

FACEIT has officially introduced a new anti-cheat system: Human Input Detection. This represents a new level of security that uses artificial intelligence to analyze a player's in-game actions rather than searching for installed cheats on their computer. The technology is set to launch on August 5 alongside the start of FACEIT Season 9.

Traditional anti-cheats work by searching for known malware or game memory modifications. However, modern cheats increasingly rely on artificial intelligence, DMA devices, and other methods that are harder to detect through standard scanning.

That is why FACEIT developed Human Input Detection—a system that analyzes how a person actually plays.

Instead of checking files or processes, the AI evaluates:

  • Mouse movements;
  • Player reaction times;
  • Crosshair placement;
  • Micro-adjustments;
  • Keystroke patterns;
  • Other input control characteristics.

If the behavior does not match what a human is physically capable of executing, the system flags it as a signal of potential cheat usage.

According to FACEIT, the model was trained on millions of played matches, including games by the platform's top players. As a result, Human Input Detection can distinguish between a professional's exceptionally high skill level and actions that are virtually impossible to perform without third-party assistance.

This also means the system can identify new or previously unknown cheats, even if they lack digital signatures. FACEIT emphasizes that Human Input Detection does not issue an automatic ban upon its first trigger. The AI is merely one component of the overall security system; the data gathered is combined with other anti-cheat signals before a final decision is made. The company also notes that it sometimes intentionally delays ban waves to block a large number of accounts at once, preventing cheat developers from quickly adapting their tools.

The new technology will become available on August 5, coinciding with the launch of Season 9.

In addition to rolling out Human Input Detection, FACEIT is tightening its penalty policy. Ban durations are being increased for offenders caught cheating, smurfing, or committing other platform rule violations.

The introduction of Human Input Detection signals a shift in the approach to combating cheating. While anti-cheats previously focused on detecting unauthorized software, primary attention is now placed on player behavior itself. This approach significantly complicates things for cheat developers, as they must not only conceal their software but also force it to flawlessly mimic natural human movement—a task far more complex than simply hiding code.
