Félix “xQc” Lengyel, a former professional player and one of the most popular streamers in the world, has made serious accusations against the Overwatch League. According to him, the league inflated viewership numbers for years to conceal its real audience metrics and artificially boost the popularity of the scene.
The statement was prompted by xQc’s reaction to a 2019 video in which billionaire Mark Cuban claimed that the Overwatch League had peaked at 300,000 concurrent viewers. Lengyel strongly disputed these figures, suggesting that the real number may have been closer to just 14,000 viewers.
“These numbers were so inflated it’s just ridiculous. Bro, for years they tried to hide the real numbers,” xQc said.
The streamer also shared information he allegedly received during the league’s preseason testing phase on Major League Gaming. According to him, data from a confidential source differed drastically from official reports:
“He told me the actual numbers of how many people were really watching. And I was like: What?!?”
According to xQc, realizing the true state of the league was one of the key factors behind his decision to leave the professional scene.
“I had already signed contracts to play in the Overwatch League. When I heard this [about the real numbers], I started preparing my exit. How can I present myself as a streamer with 10,000 viewers in a league that only has 14,000 real viewers?”
