The final entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy could be the largest game in the series in terms of file size. According to game director Naoki Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is currently expected to be around 200GB, although the final size has not yet been finalized.
“In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game,” Hamaguchi said.
For comparison, Final Fantasy VII Remake takes up around 100GB, while Rebirth requires up to 155GB. Due to Revelation’s size, all physical editions will require an additional download. The developers did not want to compromise the game simply to make it fit entirely on physical discs.
“One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we’re in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!”
Hamaguchi also said he is not concerned about the game’s massive scale. The team deliberately created a large world filled with activities, allowing players to decide which content they want to experience.
Square Enix is also developing two story DLCs focused on Vincent and Sephiroth. According to Hamaguchi, they will take an approach similar to Intermission and explore the characters in greater depth.
“It’s best to imagine the DLC like what we did with Intermission: digging deeper into the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth.”
The piano mini-game from Rebirth will also be significantly expanded. Players will be able to learn more about Tifa through the new version.
“In Rebirth, there was a piano mini-game. This time around, that’s been greatly expanded, and it now contains information related to Tifa. You can learn more about Tifa by playing this Piano game.”
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will release on April 8, 2027, for PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
