The upcoming God of War video game adaptation series has encountered major changes in its production process. The lead actor playing Kratos, American actor Ryan Hurst, suffered a severe injury—a torn bicep—while performing a stunt on the filming set in Vancouver. The actor has already undergone surgery, but the incident has forced a pause in the project's work.

According to media reports, recovery from similar injuries takes from 4–6 months to a year. The show's creators hoped Hurst would be able to return to the set by mid-August, but the actual rehabilitation timeline turned out to be too long. Since the actor cannot continue working and the production process is already underway, they decided to give the role of Kratos to another performer. It is currently unknown who exactly will replace Hurst.
The change of the lead actor will lead to large-scale reshoots. Ryan Hurst had managed to completely film four episodes of the series, as well as appear in some of the material for other episodes. Now, all of this content will have to be filmed anew.

Due to the recast and the need for reshoots, the release dates for the series will definitely change, and the production itself could drag on until 2027. As a reminder, the project also stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (as Thor) and Mandy Patinkin (as Odin). Amazon Studios representatives have declined to comment at this time.
