Gothic 1 Remake has enjoyed a strong launch, with developer Alkimia Interactive confirming that the RPG has sold more than 500,000 copies during its first week on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The remake also performed impressively on Steam, reaching a peak of nearly 78,000 concurrent players. In addition, the game has accumulated more than 15,000 user reviews on the platform and currently holds a “Very Positive” rating. залишили понад 15 тисяч відгуків, завдяки чому проєкт отримав рейтинг «Дуже схвально».

«Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic are thrilled by this initial success and extend a heartfelt thank you to all players who have entered the colony so far, especially the long-time fans who have supported Gothic for the past 25 years. This milestone would not have been possible without such a passionate community», — the studio said.
While modernizing the classic RPG, the developers also wanted to preserve many of the original game’s immersive elements. One of those decisions was the exclusion of a minimap.
«You don’t have a minimap, and we strictly kept that approach. We considered making it optional, but even that didn’t feel right. If you want to know where you are, just open your map», — explained game director Reinhard Pollice.
At the same time, the remake has become more accessible for newcomers. The quest journal has been significantly expanded to provide clearer guidance, while the crafting system now includes deeper alchemy mechanics and scroll inscription features.
Pollice also revealed that the team discussed adding extra activities such as card games or fishing, but ultimately decided against them because they were not considered essential to the core Gothic experience.
