Grand Theft Auto 6 fans believe Rockstar Games may have unintentionally hinted at a new gameplay mechanic through GTA Online. Players recently discovered a strange customization detail that could be connected to GTA 6’s rumored police tracking system.
Reddit user Ok-Oil-8903 shared that while customizing a Coquette D10 in GTA Online, they noticed unusual text under the Sunstrips category. The description mentioned vehicle identification numbers, or VINs, which currently do not exist in either GTA 5 or GTA Online. The text also claimed that the VIN for the vehicle had been removed.
According to the player, the message only appeared on a specific Coquette D10 obtained from the Chop Shop about a week earlier. Other cars, including identical models, did not display the same text. The discovery also seemed limited to one of the Mansion Vehicle Workshops, while standard customization garages showed the normal Sunstrips options.
Fans quickly connected the discovery to GTA 6 leaks from 2022. Those reports claimed Rockstar was significantly expanding how police investigations and crime tracking work in the upcoming game. Witnesses would reportedly be able to report crimes, and if players were seen entering a vehicle, the car’s description could be passed on to law enforcement. This would allow police to continue tracking the vehicle even after the player initially escaped.
Because of that, a VIN system would make sense in GTA 6. Players could potentially remove or alter a vehicle’s VIN number to avoid police attention and continue using stolen cars without being identified.
Still, fans are advised to take the leak with caution. The text could simply be placeholder content for a future GTA Online update or even part of a canceled feature. However, this is not the first time players have spotted possible GTA 6 assets appearing in GTA Online. Previous discoveries included objects and accessories that closely resembled items shown in GTA 6 promotional material.
