Japanese publisher Capcom has announced a massive data breach following unauthorized access to the CAPCOM ID system.
A total of 11,774,247 accounts worldwide were impacted. The attackers gained access to email addresses, account creation dates, last login information, authorization counts, and last login IP addresses. In 43 cases, date of birth, gender, country/region, and nickname were also exposed. For an additional 196 accounts, hackers managed to change passwords — Capcom has already reset them.
The company emphasizes that no credit card data or user-set passwords were compromise or leaked.
The incident was detected on October 19, after which Capcom blocked unauthorized access and launched an investigation. The company also warned users about potential phishing emails and urged them not to click on suspicious links.
CAPCOM ID services continue to operate as usual.
As a reminder, Mass Effect TV series is not canceled despite BioWare shutdown: Amazon continues work on the adaptation.
