Game designer Hideo Kojima has shared ambitious plans for his upcoming project, OD. The developer aims to push the boundaries of the horror genre and go "beyond" conventional levels of fear, creating a game that is significantly more terrifying than any other horror title in the industry's history.

According to Kojima, while modern interactive horror games generally remain relatively restrained, OD is being designed with the goal of becoming the scariest single-player game ever made.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kojima revealed that bringing his vision to life was far from easy. Many major publishers rejected his initial pitch. Company executives openly described the developer as "crazy" and admitted that they simply did not understand the concept behind the project. Ultimately, Xbox decided to support the idea and bring the project under its wing.

Understanding that such an extreme level of horror could alienate part of the audience, Kojima is implementing a unique support system in OD. The feature is being specifically designed to allow players to continue progressing through the game, even if the events unfolding on screen become too overwhelming for them.

At the moment, the developers have not announced even an approximate release window for OD.

As a reminder, Netflix has announced the horror film Unhinged, starring Troy Baker and Sadie Sink in the leading roles.
