HLTV reported that, according to GamesBeat, the 2026 Esports World Cup may be held in Paris instead of Saudi Arabia. The reason behind this potential move is said to be the unstable situation in the Middle East and the ongoing war in Iran. Sources claim that the organizers have already informed partners and members of the esports scene about the possible relocation of the tournament.

Although Esports World Cup Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert had previously expressed hope that the event would still take place in Riyadh, the organizers now appear to be considering an alternative option. The festival is set to begin on July 6 and will last for seven weeks, featuring 24 disciplines with a total prize pool of $75 million.

Counter-Strike 2 will be part of the final stage of the festival, with the tournament taking place from August 12 to 23. In 2026, the number of participating teams was increased to 32, while the prize pool grew to $2 million. The organizers are also planning to host an open 128-team LAN qualifier, although it is currently unknown whether this format will remain in place if the tournament is ultimately moved to Paris.
