Official Nintendo partner Hori has revealed the Arcade Classic Pro, a new arcade controller for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 featuring a unique system of interchangeable components. The device is also compatible with the original Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED, while PC users can connect it as well, provided they are running Windows 11.
The controller's main feature is its four swappable modules, allowing players to customize the layout according to their preferences. The components are inspired by controls commonly found on traditional arcade cabinets.
The available modules include:
Stick — a standard movement control supporting four or eight directional inputs.
Trackball — a mouse-like component that provides smooth movement based on the rotation of the ball.
Paddle — a wheel that allows players to turn left or right by twisting it, making it suitable for 2D games.
Loop Lever — a combination of the Stick and Paddle modules that supports movement through twisting as well as vertical, horizontal, and diagonal inputs.
Players can install the modules on either side of the controller, giving them full control over the layout. Additional buttons can also be assigned to different functions according to personal preferences.
Another notable feature is the Rapid Fire Function, which could be particularly useful in retro shooters and other games that require frequent firing.
Hori offers two modes. Rapid Fire repeatedly activates the selected button while it is held down. Rapid Fire Hold automates the firing process, with selectable speeds of 5, 10, or 20 shots per second.
The Arcade Classic Pro is not wireless and requires a USB-A connection to the console or PC.
Hori also warns that some Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games may not be compatible with the controller. The device also lacks several Joy-Con 2 features, including the gyro sensor and vibration.
Pre-orders for the Arcade Classic Pro are currently available exclusively in Japan and will remain open until October 2. Hori plans to launch the controller on February 28, 2027, with a price of 39,980 yen, which is approximately $258 USD at the current exchange rate.
Hori has not yet announced availability outside Japan. Since many of the company's other products are sold internationally, the Arcade Classic Pro could eventually reach other markets as well. However, international release plans and pricing have not been confirmed yet.
