Electronic Arts may be preparing a third installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront shooter series. The rebooted Battlefront II launched in 2017 but faced widespread backlash over its aggressive monetization and excessive use of loot boxes. The developers eventually addressed many of the game's problems, helping bring players back and reigniting demand for a sequel.
The latest information comes from Joe Brammer, head of Bulkhead Games and creator of the shooter Wardogs. According to Brammer, Electronic Arts has reached a new agreement with Disney and is working on Star Wars: Battlefront III. DICE is reportedly leading development with support from Respawn Entertainment.
Just days earlier, Giant Bomb journalist and podcast host Jeff Grubb also mentioned that Battlefront III was in development. He identified DICE and Bungie, the studio behind Destiny and Marathon, as potential developers.
However, the reported involvement of DICE and Respawn Entertainment raises questions. Both studios are also associated with the next Battlefield project, leaving it unclear how they could handle two major games at the same time. This is particularly notable given Electronic Arts' plans to significantly cut costs.
Neither Electronic Arts nor Disney has officially confirmed the project, so reports of Battlefront III should still be treated as an unverified insider claim.
As a Reminder, HUNGER has launched a closed playtest on Steam.
