Polish developer Rebel Wolves, founded by former CD Projekt RED veterans, is nearing the release of its debut RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. The studio recently gave VGC early access to the game, allowing the outlet to publish a 30-minute gameplay video showcasing its opening sequence.
The footage begins before protagonist Coen gains any supernatural powers. He explores his home village, talks with its residents, and helps them with everyday tasks. The peaceful atmosphere is eventually shattered when ancient Carpathian vampires arrive to collect the "blood tax." The attack leaves many villagers dead, transforms Coen into a half-vampire, and sees his family captured by Brencis, the leader of the vampire clan. After awakening his newfound abilities, Coen sets out to rescue his relatives, which serves as the game's only mandatory main quest.
According to the developers, players have just 30 in-game days to become strong enough to confront Brencis. How that time is spent and which optional quests are completed is entirely up to the player.
The preview also highlights the game's impressive visuals and highly detailed world. The Blood of Dawnwalker bears a strong resemblance to The Witcher 3 in its pacing, visual direction, soundtrack, combat system, interface, and even a mechanic similar to the famous "witcher senses." That connection is hardly surprising, as the project is led by former The Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz alongside his brother Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, who previously served as the acclaimed RPG's quest director and creative lead.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled to launch on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
