Destiny 2 will receive an update on June 30 that adds new items and content to the game. The situation at Bungie has become increasingly difficult following the announcement of a final major update on June 9. Despite strong community efforts to keep engagement high, the decision made alongside Sony Interactive Entertainment has not been reversed. The situation has also been marked by large scale layoffs affecting developers and contractors.
Reports indicate that the planned June 30 hotfix, which was expected to include bug fixes and quality of life improvements, has been delayed due to reduced staffing. Bungie layoffs reportedly affected hundreds of developers, mostly those working on Destiny 2 as well as parts of the Marathon team. Studio head Justin Truman has stepped down, with total cuts estimated at around 292 within the studio and over 400 including contractors and related positions.
Despite these challenges, new content is still arriving on June 30. The Iron Banner activity is returning and will continue to appear every four weeks for one week at a time, featuring Control and additional modes. The update will also introduce 12 reprised weapons, two returning weapons, and 11 newly tiered weapons, along with a new armor set called Iron Battalion.
The new armor set is designed with strong PvE focused bonuses. The two piece bonus increases handling and reload speed for primary ammo weapons and boosts their damage against non boss enemies based on weapon stats. The four piece bonus refunds Super energy after it ends based on kills made while it is active.
This armor could become a major part of endgame builds, especially in high difficulty PvE activities such as Grandmaster content where every point of damage matters. The set will only be available from June 30 to July 7 before the next Iron Banner rotation.
