Christopher Dring of The Game Business previously claimed that Hideo Kojima's Physint had a budget of around $400 million. However, he later clarified his comments, while other sources disputed that Xbox had committed such an amount to the project.
Dring explained that he had heard various estimates for Physint's budget during Tokyo Game Show, ranging from $300 million to $600 million, but did not know how much Xbox had actually agreed to pay. He later clarified that Microsoft is paying "quite a bit less" than the figure previously reported.
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also said he was hesitant to provide an exact figure without documentation or confirmation from multiple sources. However, he revealed that someone at Xbox with firsthand knowledge of the deal told him that the company had signed Physint for "significantly less" than $400 million.
Windows Central similarly reported, citing sources with direct knowledge of the contracts, that the actual deal is far below $400 million and represents only a "fraction" of that figure. According to the publication, the $400 million figure may have referred to the amount Sony and PlayStation could have been expected to spend on the project before their deal was cancelled.
For now, the actual budget of Physint remains unknown, and the $400 million figure should not be treated as a confirmed amount spent by Xbox on the game.
