Konami to Test Matchmaking Based on Smart Assist Settings in eFootball

Konami has announced the launch of a new matchmaking test system in eFootball that will take Smart Assist settings into account.

The AI-powered feature helps newcomers by automatically adjusting shot power, dribbling direction, and passing lines. However, among experienced players, the system has sparked controversy due to concerns about reduced tactical freedom and limited manual control.

The matchmaking test will take place in Divisions 1–3 of the eFootball League. The main goal of the experiment is to allow users to choose what type of opponents they want to face.

The feature is expected to arrive in the next game update, scheduled for release in late May or early June.

Players will be able to choose between two matchmaking options:

  • Same setting as mine — the system will search only for opponents with the same Smart Assist status (enabled or disabled).
  • Matchmake freely — the game will connect players with any opponent, regardless of their AI assistance settings.

The developers warned that selecting “Same setting as mine” may cause certain inconveniences. In particular, matchmaking times could become longer, and players may face a higher chance of being matched with opponents who have unstable internet connections.

For now, the feature will operate in a testing phase to gather analytics and community feedback. Konami also plans to launch a dedicated in-game survey in the future.

As a reminder, the Rocket League World Championship 2026 will return to Fort Worth.
