The President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, announced that construction of the country’s first dedicated esports arena is scheduled to begin in 2026. This move is part of a broader government strategy aimed at developing creative industries and supporting youth.

The goal of the project is to create a modern platform for gamers, where they can train and compete at a professional level. The arena is expected to become a hub for hosting both local and international tournaments.

The arena will include:

  • Around 40 gaming stations
  • A tournament zone for hosting competitions, including international-level events
  • A media room (for broadcasts and press operations)
  • Other supporting facilities (necessary infrastructure)

The Maldivian government recognizes esports as a promising sector capable of stimulating the digital economy. The country aims to move beyond traditional tourism and become a significant player in the regional esports scene.

Reminder: A Ukrainian player was banned in Battlefield for using the “Azov” emblem.
