The leader of the X-Men, Cyclops, will join the roster of Marvel Rivals this Friday, June 12, alongside the release of Update 8.5. The developers have confirmed that the character will arrive in the Duelist role.
Details about Cyclops' gameplay were revealed in the latest Dev Vision developer diary. His combat kit revolves around powerful optic blasts that can be fired directly at enemies or ricochet off environmental objects and opponents. His ultimate ability unleashes a devastating optical explosion capable of destroying everything in its path. In addition, Cyclops will feature a unique Team-Up ability called Blast Slash, which grants Wolverine supercharged claws.
In addition to the new hero, the major 8.5 update will introduce a brand-new game mode called Bounty Annihilation. The mode features large-scale 18v18 battles on a dedicated map created specifically for the experience.
The update will also add the Swimsuit Special summer-themed cosmetic collection, as well as a new social hub for players — Hellfire Bay Beach.
At the same time, the developers announced changes to their plans for the game's story campaign. The next chapter of Path to Doomsday has been postponed until late July, while the release of Phase Three has been moved to mid-October.
According to the development team, the delay is intended to improve the overall gameplay experience following the underwhelming launch of the first campaign chapter, which focused on the Avengers.
Earlier, Gray Newell, the son of Gabe Newell, was announced as a participant in the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans.
