During Minecraft LIVE in September, Mojang unveiled the Sift, Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years. It will debut in Minecraft Dungeons 2 before arriving in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027 as the game’s fourth official dimension alongside the Overworld, Nether, and End.
Mojang also announced Ice Caves, the next major game drop for Minecraft. These rare underground extensions of cold biomes will feature glowing ice crystals and a new hostile mob called the Frozen Zombie.
Frozen Zombies can apply a stacking freezing effect with their melee attacks and throw ice balls that deal damage and knock players back. Zombies can also turn into Frozen Zombies after being exposed to powder snow.
Ice balls can be obtained by defeating Frozen Zombies, used as weapons, or crafted into a new potion capable of freezing players. The glowing ice crystals can be placed both vertically and horizontally and can also serve as a light source.
The Sift will feature its own atmosphere, mobs, and vegetation, offering a new environment to explore in Minecraft Dungeons 2. The game launches on September 29.
Mojang also confirmed that Ice Caves will bring more variety to the underground areas of cold biomes. «Though they may be beautiful, these caves are far from safe», the developer said.
