The campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has already received more than 4,700 Steam reviews, with around 92% of them being positive. Early access is available to players who preordered the game, and its user ratings have made it the best-received entry in the series on Steam in over a decade.

For comparison, Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare III have all failed to reach even a 50% positive review rate on Steam, according to SteamDB.
Critics have also praised Modern Warfare 4's single-player campaign. Polygon's review places it among the five best campaigns in Call of Duty history. Despite lasting around eight hours, the game stands out for its spectacular action sequences, tense stealth missions, and the return of Captain Price.
The story follows two parallel narratives. One focuses on South Korean and American soldiers fighting against an invasion by North Korean forces. The other follows Captain John Price as he hunts down the Russian defense minister known as the Archer.
The reviewer pointed out several shortcomings, including technical bugs and an open-world mission that slows down the campaign's otherwise intense pacing. The story also ends sooner than expected, while the two narrative threads never fully come together.
The full release of Modern Warfare 4, including multiplayer and the DMZ mode, is scheduled for October 23.
