The first hands-on previews for Silent Hill: Townfall have appeared online. Gaming media outlets have already spent several hours with the upcoming psychological horror title and shared fresh information about its story, gameplay mechanics, atmosphere, and technical features.
Players will take on the role of Simon Ordell, who awakens in the abandoned Scottish coastal town of St. Amelia with no memory of how he got there. Throughout the game, he gradually uncovers the events that led him to the mysterious settlement.
For the first time in the franchise's history, the story is set in Scotland. The developers studied real coastal communities to recreate their atmosphere as authentically as possible.
The narrative focuses on psychological horror, constantly blurring the line between reality and hallucinations. One of the central mysteries revolves around nurse Zoe and her connection to Simon and the town itself.
A portable CRTV device serves as one of the game's key tools. It helps players uncover hidden clues, solve puzzles, navigate environments, and detect nearby monsters.
More details about Silent Hill: Townfall:
Puzzles are closely tied to the story and slowly reveal the characters' pasts. Many of them rely on analog devices and technology inspired by the 1990s.
Townfall will also become the first Silent Hill game to feature full first-person combat encounters. Even so, the developers encourage players to avoid direct confrontations whenever possible.
Stealth is the primary survival mechanic. Enemies can be bypassed, hidden from, or distracted using various objects, including bottles, bricks, televisions, and other environmental items.
At the beginning of the game, players will only have wooden planks for defense before eventually obtaining a revolver. Firearms are powerful, but loud gunshots can attract additional creatures, while reloading takes a significant amount of time.
Several types of monsters will appear throughout the game, including grotesque creatures with enormous blades instead of faces and enemies capable of attacking from a distance with long tentacles.
Exploration takes place between the normal world and the Otherworld, where familiar locations transform into twisted nightmare versions of themselves.
On PS5 Pro, the game supports PSSR, ray tracing, and two display modes: Quality at 30 FPS and Performance at 60 FPS.
Players can unlock five different endings, with two of them requiring special conditions to be met.
The developers also make extensive use of the DualSense controller's features. Adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and the gyroscope are integrated into both CRTV interactions and firearm handling.
