Nintendo’s 40th anniversary presentation for The Legend of Zelda focused mainly on the Ocarina of Time remake, but the company also shared a small update on the upcoming movie adaptation. The film will tell a completely new story unrelated to any of the games in the series.
We now know the movie’s official title, and it is surprisingly simple: The Legend of Zelda. No subtitle. The film is scheduled to premiere on April 30, 2027.
Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto explained that viewers will understand the choice of title once they see the movie. According to him, it will be a standalone story set in the familiar Zelda universe.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who appeared in an episode of «The Sandman», will play the lead character. Princess Zelda will be portrayed by Bo Bragason, who starred in the series «Renegade Nell».
The film is directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner trilogy. Its producers are Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, the former chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment.
Shortly after its theatrical release, The Legend of Zelda will also arrive on Netflix.
