One of the most anticipated games of 2026 is almost here. Chinese studio S-GAME is preparing to release its action game Phantom Blade Zero next week, with the title already surpassing 3 million wishlists.
Ahead of launch, the developers have unveiled a spectacular new trailer and confirmed that the game will receive a physical release. Physical copies are scheduled to arrive in 2027, with Standard, Deluxe, and Collector's Editions planned. However, disc-based versions will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5.
Phantom Blade Zero takes place in a fictional universe that blends Eastern culture with steampunk elements and the occult. Players take on the role of Soul, a professional assassin who is killed while carrying out a mission. A mysterious Doctor brings him back to life, but Soul has only 66 days left to settle his affairs.
The main story is expected to take around 30 hours to complete, with another 30 to 35 hours of additional content available. The game will feature four difficulty settings. Players who die during the second phase of a boss fight will also be able to resume their next attempt from that stage instead of restarting the entire encounter.
S-GAME has repeatedly stressed that Phantom Blade Zero is not a soulslike. Instead, the studio is aiming for a fast-paced action experience with spectacular combat and a varied fighting system that avoids unnecessary complexity.
Soul will have access to 30 types of primary weapons and 20 additional weapon types. He is highly proficient with all of them, allowing players to freely combine different weapons and techniques during combat.
The development team also received help with the game's cinematic action sequences from renowned actor, director, and action choreographer Donnie Yen, known for John Wick: Chapter 4 and the Ip Man films. Yen has been collaborating with S-GAME since 2023.
Phantom Blade Zero launches on October 29, 2026, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5.
