Pokémon Champions officially launched on mobile devices on June 17. The free-to-play title is focused entirely on competitive Pokémon battles, and all official tournaments are now held within the game.
Alongside the mobile release, developers rolled out update v1.1.0, introducing 11 new Mega Evolutions. The update also revealed the abilities of these forms, including two brand-new abilities never before seen in the Pokémon series.
The newly added: Mega Evolutions are Mega Eelektross, Mega Pyroar, Mega Scolipede, Mega Scrafty, Mega Malamar, Mega Barbaracle, Mega Dragalge, Mega Staraptor, Mega Falinks, Mega Raichu X, and Mega Raichu Y.
One of the highlights is Elevate, Mega Eelektross' new ability. It grants immunity to Ground-type attacks and battlefield hazards while also boosting the Pokémon’s highest stat by one stage after knocking out an opponent. Another new ability, Fire Mane, belongs to Mega Pyroar and increases the power of its Fire-type moves by 50%.
The remaining Mega Evolutions received familiar abilities such as Shell Armor, Intimidate, Contrary, Tough Claws, Regenerator, Defiant, Electric Surge, and No Guard.
According to the developers, Mega Malamar retaining Contrary makes it a particularly threatening competitive option. Mega Staraptor also gains the ability, which could make moves like Close Combat especially powerful in the current meta.
Following the update, there are still 11 Mega Evolutions whose abilities have yet to be officially revealed. These include Absol Z, Garchomp Z, Lucario Z, Darkrai, Baxcalibur, Golisopod, Magearna, Heatran, Tatsugiri, Zeraora, and Zygarde.
