While fans continue to debate which Resident Evil title will be the next to receive a remake, new information suggests that Capcom may also be preparing the return of another legendary franchise.
According to insider Major Playeix, who has yet to establish a strong reputation but has previously shared accurate information regarding SEGA projects, the Japanese publisher is currently working on a remake of the original Devil May Cry.
Released in 2001, the game helped redefine the action hack and slash genre by introducing faster paced, more brutal, and highly stylish combat that left a lasting impact on the industry.
Major Playeix claims that the Devil May Cry remake is already at an "advanced stage" of development, although players may still have to wait several years before its release.
At this point, the reliability of the report remains uncertain. However, Devil May Cry continues to enjoy strong popularity among fans. Recent evidence includes the success of Netflix's anime adaptation and the record sales achieved by Devil May Cry 5 over the past year, despite the game originally launching in 2019. In addition, Devil May Cry 5 is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 23.
The origins of Devil May Cry remain one of gaming's most fascinating stories. The project initially emerged during the development of Resident Evil, but the ideas of then young game designer Hideki Kamiya were considered too ambitious and too different from the survival horror franchise. As a result, producer Shinji Mikami encouraged him to turn those concepts into a standalone title, which ultimately became Devil May Cry.
