During a recent closed company-wide meeting, PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst reportedly informed employees that Sony would stop porting its first-party exclusives to PC. The information was shared by insider Jason Schreier.

According to the report, the decision to return to a strict console-exclusive strategy was driven by three key factors:

Poor Financial Performance

PC ports failed to generate the expected level of revenue and did not achieve strong sales results, making the costs associated with adapting games for the platform difficult to justify.

Inconsistent Release Strategy

Sony's previous approach to bringing exclusives to PC was viewed as inconsistent and lacking a clear long-term plan.

Protecting the PlayStation Ecosystem

The company aims to keep its most valuable intellectual properties (IP) closely tied to its own platform.

Sony's leadership reportedly believes that having successful franchises that can only be played on PlayStation remains a core part of the brand's identity. Releasing those titles on PC reduced consumers' incentive to purchase Sony consoles, while a return to full exclusivity is expected to encourage more players to buy a PS5.

As a reminder, GTA 6 fans recently expressed concerns after the game's release date disappeared from the official website.
