Valve has released a new Steam Beta update that introduces HDR support to the Steam Deck for the first time. The feature is currently available only on the Steam Deck OLED model, with broader support expected in the future.
The update enables HDR when using Steam Remote Play, allowing Steam Deck OLED owners to stream games from a connected PC with improved dynamic range and enhanced image quality. It also introduces experimental AV1 video streaming support, offering better visual quality while using less bandwidth. In addition, Valve included several fixes for Remote Play, Local Network Game Transfers, and improvements to video color range.
HDR enhances image quality by delivering richer colors, improved lighting, and greater visual depth. Games with realistic graphics, such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, are expected to benefit the most. For now, HDR functionality is limited to Remote Play streaming, and Valve has not announced native HDR support for standalone gameplay on the Steam Deck.
The update follows Valve's Steam Deck price increase introduced in late May 2026. The 512 GB Steam Deck OLED model rose from $549 to $789, while the 1 TB version increased by $300 and now costs $949.
Valve also launched the Steam Machine on June 29, with support for every Steam Deck Verified game and a simplified game verification process for developers. The base 512 GB Steam Machine starts at $1,049.
