According to sources from The Verge and journalist Tom Warren, the sixth installment of the cult series will be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. An official announcement could take place as early as November — a month that marks the 15th anniversary of Skyrim (November 11) and the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox (November 15).
The events will unfold in Hammerfell — a desert province and the homeland of the Redguards, and the subtitle Sentinel itself refers to one of the largest local cities. The main feature will be the plot: this will be the first game in the franchise to fully focus on the history and origins of the Elder Scrolls — mystical artifacts containing knowledge of time and prophecy.
The information is supported by an August post from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Following a closed gameplay showcase, she published a teaser where the game's subtitle was hidden by eight asterisks, which perfectly matches the number of letters in the word Sentinel.
The exact release date and platforms have not yet been confirmed. Development lead Todd Howard currently refuses to comment on possible console exclusivity for the Microsoft ecosystem. The situation is complicated by massive July layoffs in the Xbox gaming division: according to Bethesda developers, this took a toll on the team's morale and could significantly affect the development pace of the project, which was announced back in 2018.
