Keeping Geralt's equipment in good condition is important in The Witcher 3. As weapons and armor lose durability, they become less effective, which can make tougher encounters even more difficult. Fortunately, you do not have to travel to a Blacksmith or Armorer every time your gear needs attention.
Players of The Witcher 3: Remastered can also disable item durability entirely through the accessibility options. Turning this feature off does not prevent you from earning achievements.
The easiest way to restore durability is by using Repair Kits. Blacksmiths and Armorers sell these items, with their locations marked on the map by an anvil and armor icon respectively.
After speaking to one of these merchants, open their inventory and switch to the repair section using R1/RB. You can then spend the necessary resources or currency to restore your damaged equipment.
There is another option that is particularly useful while exploring. Once you obtain the appropriate diagrams, you can craft Repair Kits yourself. Keeping several of them in your inventory means you can fix your equipment on the road instead of interrupting your journey to find a craftsman.
The required Repair Kit diagrams can be bought from both Blacksmiths and Armorers. Once you have a diagram, head to the Crafting section found under Glossary, then open the Tools category to craft the corresponding item.
It is a good idea to repair your gear before its durability becomes critically low. The game indicates heavily damaged equipment with a red icon on the HUD, which is a clear sign that your weapon or armor needs attention.
Low weapon durability reduces the amount of damage your swords deal, while worn armor offers less protection. As a result, ignoring damaged equipment can make Geralt considerably more vulnerable during combat.
For that reason, keeping a few Repair Kits in your inventory is one of the easiest ways to avoid having to search for a Blacksmith or Armorer in the middle of your adventure.
