CD Projekt RED unexpectedly announced a remaster of the acclaimed 2015 RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt this week. The project will go well beyond a visual upgrade, with the developers promising major improvements across several parts of the game.
Visitors at gamescom 2026 have already shared screenshots and short gameplay clips from the remastered version, but GameSpot has now published a much longer look. The outlet presented around five minutes of gameplay featuring an updated location, a slightly revised combat system, and a battle against the demon Morvudd during the «The Missing Son» quest.
The boss encounter has also been revamped. Morvudd and several other enemies now have new abilities and attacks that were not present in the original game. These additions are expected to make combat more varied and dynamic.
The footage also highlights the transmog system, which lets players change the appearance of Geralt's equipment without replacing its actual stats. This means players can maintain their preferred look without having to sacrifice the effectiveness of their gear.
The visual improvements are another major part of the remaster. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered now features visuals that can compete with many modern games, while the gameplay changes should make another playthrough more engaging.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29 for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine will be included with the release, while the third expansion, Songs of the Past, is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
