Geralt's return to Netflix may take longer than expected. According to What's On Netflix, the fifth and final season of The Witcher is no longer expected to arrive in 2026 and could instead premiere sometime in 2027.

Netflix previously listed 2026 as the expected release window, while showrunner Lauren Hissrich had also discussed that timeframe. However, references to a 2026 premiere have recently disappeared from official sources, and Netflix has yet to announce a new release date.

What's On Netflix suggests that additional visual effects work and an extended post-production period could be behind the delay. However, that explanation raises some questions, considering that filming for the fifth season wrapped in 2025. The production had also previously appeared to be on track with its schedule.

Another possible explanation is that Netflix simply wants to strengthen its 2027 lineup of major releases. Moving The Witcher to the following year could allow the streaming giant to offer subscribers a larger selection of high-profile premieres.

The fifth season will adapt material from the novels "The Tower of the Swallow" and "The Lady of the Lake". Liam Hemsworth will once again portray Geralt after taking over the role from Henry Cavill, who departed the series following its third season.
