Game director Richard Knight revealed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced uses the Anvil engine from AC Shadows, allowing the remake to significantly improve over the 2013 original.
The game was officially announced in April, with a release set for July 9, 2026. Despite numerous leaks, excitement for the remake of one of the series’ most popular entries remains high.
«The Anvil engine at the heart of Shadows is at the heart of Black Flag Resynced too, giving us access to everything from Raytracing and RTGI to better sound, dynamic weather, destructible objects and more. And specifically for Black Flag Resynced, the Anvil watertech team has been a critical part of the experience in giving us the best naval experience yet», —Knight explained on Reddit.

Developers are focusing on improving naval combat, the defining feature of the original, while also delivering a noticeable visual upgrade thanks to the modern engine.
