Unity has officially unveiled a new version of its game engine — Unity 7. The developers promise faster workflows, a more open ecosystem, improved graphics, and a concept of "smart monetization." Early beta testing for the update will begin in December 2026, with the full release scheduled for early 2027.

Upgrading to Unity 7 will require no rebuilding of existing projects, as all data will be seamlessly migrated. As Adam Smith, Senior Vice President of Product, noted, every component of version 7 is being thoroughly tested in Unity 6 prior to implementation to ensure stability.

One of the major new features will be streamlined collaboration. Thanks to a new CLI, public API, and free MCP, developers will be able to interact with projects using their own tools without launching the full Unity editor. For example, an artist working in Blender can receive a project link, make the necessary edits, review them in the Unity web dashboard via a browser, and submit an updated build.

Regarding generative AI integration, the company has not yet disclosed full details. However, Unity promises to work with existing tools, leverage AI for graphics optimization, and showcase its integration with Unity Vector in the near future.
