Valve Updates Regional Pricing Tools in Steamworks

Valve has introduced an update to its developer toolkit in Steamworks, aimed at simplifying how prices are set and converted across different regions. The new features are designed to help publishers respond more quickly to economic changes and currency fluctuations.

Developers can now choose from three conversion methods offered by Steam:

  • Exchange rate-based conversion — uses current currency exchange rates at a given time.
  • Purchasing power-based conversion — relies on publicly available data about the average purchasing power of consumers in a specific country or region.
  • Multi-variable conversion — combines various datasets for each currency, including local purchasing power, typical pricing of similar entertainment products, and exchange rates (this method most closely resembles the previous pricing tool).

These approaches are intended to help developers make more informed pricing decisions and select the method that best fits their goals. Some developers may combine multiple methods when setting prices across one or more currencies, while others may continue to configure everything manually.

As a reminder, a recent controversy at the Brawl Stars Championship 2026 saw WWL Esports disqualified from the competition.
