Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios decided not to continue working on the franchise. However, rights holder Hasbro has repeatedly expressed interest in expanding the brand, and new reports suggest that modern remakes of the first two games could be among its next major projects.
According to an exclusive report from PC Gamer, Wizards of the Coast is currently developing full-scale remakes of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2. The report states that the project is being led by former BioWare veteran Kevin Martens, who played a key role in the creation of the original Baldur’s Gate 2, its acclaimed Throne of Bhaal expansion, and several other classic BioWare titles.

Martens most recently worked on the sci-fi RPG Exodus at Archetype Entertainment, but sources suggest he has now shifted his focus to the Baldur’s Gate remakes.
PC Gamer claims that a remake of Baldur’s Gate 2 is already in active development and believes work on a remake of the original Baldur’s Gate is taking place simultaneously. Importantly, these projects are said to be full remakes rather than updated Enhanced Edition releases, featuring modern visuals and potentially expanded story content.
The original Baldur's Gate II launched in 2000 and remains one of the highest-rated games ever made, holding a score of 95 on Metacritic.
Representatives from Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast declined to comment on the report.
