According to The Verge, Microsoft is developing a new Disc to Digital feature that will allow Xbox users to turn their physical game copies into digital licenses.

To use the feature, players will only need to insert a compatible disc, install the game, and launch it on their console. After that, they will receive a digital entitlement linked to the specific disc.

The digital license can be transferred between different Xbox accounts, meaning users could move it when lending the disc to someone else or switching profiles. The physical disc will continue working even after being converted.

Xbox employees have already started testing the feature internally. It is expected to support Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs, while Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles will not be compatible.

The digital entitlement will work similarly to purchasing a game from the Microsoft Store. If a title is available through Xbox Cloud Gaming and the player has a Game Pass subscription, it can be streamed. Xbox Play Anywhere games will also remain accessible on PCs and handheld devices.

The feature is also expected to support console bundle discs, multi-disc releases, and included downloadable content. However, some Xbox One discs may not work due to differences in how and when they were manufactured.

Microsoft is still testing the feature internally, but according to The Verge, it could become an important solution for future Xbox consoles, especially if the next generation moves away from built-in disc drives.

As a Reminder, Konami officially confirms multiple endings for Silent Hill: Townfall.
