CD Projekt Red has shared new details about the future of The Witcher franchise, revealing why players should not expect many large-scale expansions for upcoming entries.

Story expansions have become a common part of modern gaming, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received several acclaimed DLCs that introduced new adventures, locations, and gameplay content. However, the studio appears to be taking a different approach with its next trilogy.

During a recent earnings call, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked about the possibility of creating expansions for the next three Witcher games. According to him, the studio's ambitious release schedule leaves little room for large DLC projects.

«The specific goal is to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. To be completely honest, it would be difficult for us to fit major expansions into the upcoming trilogy. That's where we stand on the matter right now», he said.

CD Projekt Red previously confirmed that at least 499 developers are currently working on The Witcher 4. The development team also includes a senior developer who previously contributed to Baldur's Gate 3.

Beyond The Witcher, the company is also developing Project Hadar, a new original franchise that recently entered its concept phase.
