In November 2025, Ubisoft and the FX channel, owned by The Walt Disney Company, officially confirmed they are working on a TV adaptation of the Far Cry series.
It was also revealed that Noah Hawley will serve as showrunner and director. He is known for «Fargo» and «Alien Earth». Rob McElhenney will join as co-creator, executive producer, and one of the lead actors, known for Mythic Quest and «It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia».
The creators previously stated that each season will tell a separate story with different characters and locations, though it remained unclear whether the show would adapt the plots of the games.
In an interview with Deadline, Noah Hawley said he was drawn to the franchise’s structure, where most entries function as standalone stories. This approach aligns with his work on Fargo, which also follows an anthology format.
During pre-production, Hawley decided there was little point in adapting any specific Far Cry game, as their stories are already well known and major changes would turn them into entirely different narratives. Instead, he studied the core elements of the franchise and aims to use them to build a fresh series. Special attention will likely be given to the charismatic villains, who have been a defining feature of the series since Far Cry 3.
Active production is set to begin in summer 2026, with Noah Hawley directing the first two episodes. The premiere date has not yet been announced. The series is expected to release on the Hulu streaming platform.
